As you’re writing your self help book, motivational book, or inspiration book, keep these tips in mind:
No matter what type of inspirational book printing project you have, we have four binding options. Have a motivational book that your readers will write entries in? Consider plastic coil or wire-o binding with an uncoated paper stock so the book will lay flat, allowing your readers to easily write in the book.
Have an inspirational book with beautiful pictures that your readers will want to read again and again? Consider perfect binding with a gloss paper stock so that the graphics look great. Have a self help book for a conference or group meeting? Consider a saddle stitched option. Decide on your bind option early in the process.
Before you start laying out and formatting your book, have someone edit the book for you. When you write a book, you are so close to it that it is hard to see typographical or grammatical errors. Edit the book before it is layed out so it is easy to make changes. Don’t have the funds to hire an professional editor?
Consider asking friends or family members to do the editing. You can pay them through a dedication or acknowledgement in your book. Just make sure you can handle their suggestions without getting upset. You don’t want to ruin a personal relationship over their comments on your book.
Make sure you have a stand out cover that will really sell your self help book printing project. If you don’t feel like you have the expertise to do it yourself, consider letting Publishing Xpress design your cover. For just $100, our designers will design a professional cover, based on your specifications. Let them know what text and graphics you want on the cover, and they’ll do the rest. You get two free rounds of revisions to tweak the design. If that’s not enough, additional revisions are only $25 per round. It’s an inexpensive way to get a professional cover for your book.
You need to make sure that the inside design is professional as well. In this age of self publishing, we’ve seen some pretty awful book layout designs. If the book looks like it was designed by an amateur, some will be put off and won’t even read your book. You might want to look through some books that you think are well designed.
What appeals to you in the books? How do the books handle things like font type, font size, chapters, justification and indentation, page numbering, etc.? You don’t have to copy any book exactly, but you will probably find a lot of elements that will make your book layout shine.
Decide what paper stocks you want to use for your book. For the inside pages, we offer paper ranging from 60# uncoated text to 100# gloss or matte text. Depending on your binding option, cover stock can range from 80# cover to 120# cover and 16 pt. cover stock. Not sure what you should select? Send for our free sample packet.
We’ll send you samples of all four binding styles — perfect bound, plastic coil, saddle stitch, and wire-o. The plastic coil book contains samples of all of our paper stocks. It also shows examples of gloss lamination and soft touch lamination. Most people find this very helping when make decisions for their book.
Still not convinced you selected the right options for your self help book printing project? You can call us or chat online and ask for our suggestions. Or, when you place your order, request a hard copy press proof. We will send you a proof that uses all of your specifications, so you have a copy that will exactly like your finished books. This will give you an opportunity to make sure that you are happy with your selections.
Often, when you see the book printed out, you’ll notice things that you didn’t see with the online version of your books. Typos may become obvious. Formatting issues may be noticeable. There is a lot you may notice that you didn’t pay attention to in the digital proof. The cost for a hard copy press proof is $60 if it is sent via ground UPS service and $100 if sent via overnight UPS services. Keep in mind, however, that this process will take about a week. Thus, you will get your final books a little later.
